The Basics About This Device
If you haven’t yet heard about HiTaste P5, then let me introduce to you the number 1 customer rated alternative to IQOS 3.0 Multi! While this rating is in no way official, it does reflect user feedback as P5 devices hold 5 stars on almost all websites they are featured on. Now that we’ve tested the P5 device, it’s easy to see why!
P5 is an integrated device, just like 3.0 Multi, but with additional functions and design capabilities. HiTaste P5 is 104 x 25 x 16mm in diameter and 41 g in weight. Much like IQOS, it can be used several times consecutively before needing to be charged. When used on the manufacturer recommended settings (250 C for 3 minutes), our test users got approximately 16 uses. Unlike IQOS, HiTaste P5 allows users to adjust both the temperature and the length of cycle. This allows users to customize their experience for their personal needs. To make this easier for the user to do, HiTaste added a digital display screen to their device – another feature that IQOS does not offer.
When using the HiTaste P5 device the display screen will become your best friend since it shows you all your settings as well as your usage record and shows you the status of cycles and cleaning. On complaint we had was that we did find the screen a bit hard so see outside in sunlight. Other than the screen, the device has two buttons; the control button and the up/down button. This makes the device easy to operate but once you’ve memoirzed all the controls.
HiTaste P5 comes in five colors; white, black, red, blue, and purple/teal ombre. This is the first time that our team here at Heat180 has seen an ombre design on a device. We love how unique it is!
|Number of Cycles (aka number of HeatSticks before needing to recharge device)||Officially 15 but our test users got 16 HeatSticks|
|Charging Time||1 hour 57 minutes|
|Life Expectancy||1 year|
|Colors||White, black, red, blue, purple/teal ombre|
Product Unboxing & First Use
Included in the HiTaste P5 kit is the heating device, the P5 manual, the Quality Control pass, a USB cable, an elastics, for an unspecified purpose. When you take your device out of the box, you’ll first check its charge by pressing the control button once. This will take you to an activation screen, that will act like a home screen on a computer, which will only change when the device is going something or the settings need to be adjusted. In the left-hand corner of the screen there will be a little battery icon which will display the charge amount remaining. If the battery is not completely full upon opening (ours wasn’t) then we recommend charging it until it is full before usage. Do do this, plug the USB cable into the USB port located on the bottom of the device and connect to a power source. When charging, the activation screen will change to show a larger version of the battery icon and will update the battery icon’s fullness in response to device charge amount. During this time, the device cannot be used in any other manner (e.g. no build-in cleaning, no using device).
When the device is charged unplug it so that you can start using the device. Firstly you’ll want to set your desired temperature and length of cycle. To change the temperature that your device will run at, click the up and down buttons. The temperature on the screen will change with your clicks and will set as soon as you stop clicking. You can choose any temp between 392 F/200 C – 572 F/300 C. To change the length of cycle, click the control button 5 times in rapid succession. If done correctly, box will appear around the time (located in the bottom right-hand corner of the digital screen) and the numbers within the box will be flashing. Use the up and down arrows again to choose your time. You can choose any time between 1.5 – 5 minutes. When you’ve got the desired time, simply stop clicking and wait until the numbers stop flashing, indicating that they are reset.
Now to use the device. Begin by inserting a HeatStick into the HeatStick heating chamber. Then, press the control button to return to the activation screen, if it hasn’t already done so. To start the heating process, click the control button 3 times in rapid succession, but on the third press, press and hold the button down for 2 seconds before letting go. When you do let go of the button, the device should vibrate and the screen should change to display the temperature in numbers. The numbers will change quickly as it raises in an attempt to reach the desired temperature. This will take approximately 10 seconds, depending on what temperature your device is set at. Once it’s reached the desired temp. the device will vibrate for a second time to indicate that you may now begin using it. The device will stay on for however long you set it, but will give you a warning vibration 15 seconds before shutting off. The display screen will also show a countdown from 15 seconds. When the cycle is over, the device will vibrate one last time and the screen will display ‘OVER’ for a few seconds before returning to the activation screen.
If you want to use the device again directly after your cycle, you can do so but be aware that just because the device has returned to the activation screen doesn’t mean the device can be used right then. It takes approximately 40 seconds, depending on your set temperature, to cool down enough for a new cycle to be started. If you press the control button 3 times before it’s ready the screen will show ‘TOO HOT.’
The device itself does get hot to the touch around the HeatSticks heating chamber. While this is unavoidable, and really not a big deal as it’s not hot enough to burn your hand, it is a bit of a concern since the device does not have any cover/top over the heating chamber. One of our test users pointed out that she did not feel comfortable throwing this in her purse when the heating blade was still so hot and left exposed, in fear that something, like scrap paper, bobby pins, or her lanyard strap, could make its way into the heating chamber and touch the blade.
Testing & Day to Day Use
Overall, our test users liked HiTaste P5 and found it to be a satisfying hit. Our only complaints where that it is difficult to see the digital display screen in direct sunlight and that there is no cap over the HeatSticks heating chamber.
Some of our test users did note that to operate P5 you have to remember alot of different controls (e.g. press the control button 5 times to change length of cycle, 8 times to clean, 3 times and hold to start heating, etc.). Therefore, we would recommend this device to anyone who is a current HnB user or who wants to upgrade to a more technologically advanced device since it can be a bit overwhelming at first.
Nevertheless, it is a solid, quality device. It’s ways to see why so many people have rated P5 highly.
As with all HnB devices, it is recommended that you clean regularly to prevent build-up which could affect device performance. For P5, the manufacturer recommends cleaning after every pack of HeatSticks. Our test users find it easier to clean every evening with the build-in cleaning mechanism, then do a full manual cleaning once per week, depending on your HeatStick usage.
To use the build-in mechanism, press the control button 8 times in rapid succession. Once cleaning is activated the device will vibrate and the screen will display ‘CLEAN’ for 5 seconds. Once the 5 seconds is up, the screen will show a countdown from 15 seconds. When it reaches 0 the screen will go back to the usual activation screen, indicating that the cleaning is done.
To manually clean the device, remove the cap and gently clean around the blade with a cleaning stick or cleaning hook. It is important to note that the HiTaste kit does not include any cleaning tools, they must be purchased separately. HiTaste does not sell separate cleaning tools, but IQOS does. Since the designs of these two devices is so similar, we recommend purchasing IQOS cleaning sticks, but it is not necessary if you’d prefer something else instead. One of our test users, cleans his devices with cotton swabs lightly dipped in rubbing alcohol and has never had a problem with device functions or technical issues.
One last control you should know is how to read and operate the usage record. The usage record shows how many HeatSticks you have used. This is a great feature for anyone who is keeping track! We recommend clearing it in set intervals, either at the end of each day or at the end of each week. To clear the usage record, click the control button 5 times in rapid succession, just like as if you were going to change the length of cycle. The length of cycle numbers will begin flashing. When they do, click the control button 5 more times in rapid succession and the usage record will begin flashing. To clear, click any other button and it will go back to ‘0.’ Then just wait for the numbers to stop flashing, and its set!

Investing in a HiTaste Device
HiTaste was developed under Shenzhen Ruigu Technology Co. Ltd.. The company was established in 2011, however they did not begin manufacturing HnB devices until 2017, when they launched the Quick product line. The HiTaste P line was launched in 2018 with P5 as the first device promoted.
As we said in our introduction, HiTaste P5 is the number 1 customer rated alternative to IQOS 3.0 Multi. We here at Heat180 think that that say alot seeing as how many alternatives there are to IQOS 3.0 Multi on the market. If you are a current HnB user and are looking for a cheaper alternative to IQOS this device is a solid choice. It’s also a great option for new users looking to get into the HnB, but not wanting to invest a large sum in bigger name brands like IQOS.
The HiTaste brand does not product their own HeatSticks. Instead, their devices are designed to work with other branded HeatSticks, such as HEETS and Marlboro for IQOS HeatSticks.
