WOULD WE RECOMMEND?

OCR is a Heat-not-Burn device for traditional cigarettes. The idea behind this is that anyone who is a heavy smoker, or who just doesn’t feel as satisfied with HeatSticks, can use OCR to heat their usual cigarettes, instead of burning them.  This is a great way for traditional cigarette smokers to reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals found within cigarette smoke and lower their risk of health issues related to smoking.

OCR is one of only a handful of traditional cigarette HnB devices on the market. It has a unique design, quite different from other similar devices, like UWOO YOWO and IUOC 4.0. One of the most interesting parts of OCR is that it comes with filters that you can change out every 80 uses. While OCR does have alot of pros, it has just as many cons. One of our concerns with OCR is actually about the filters. You are given several in your kit, but what happens after you use them? At the time of writing this review, replacement filters were not available for sale. Our biggest complaint though is that, retailing for $98, it’s simply too expensive. We do like this device, and found that it worked well, but we’d like to see a slight price reduction.

DESIGN:  There are pros and cons to this design. For example, the cap is great for making sure that the mouthpiece stays clean when you’re not using it, but the angle of the cap, when it’s open and you’re using the device, is a bit awkward. Same with the mouthpiece, it’s nice that you can move it to the angle you want it at, but it’s a bit awkward as it moves around when you’re using it. We think that users will either love this design or hate it.

In your OCR kit you will find; the device, the manual, a USB cable, cleaning sticks, and filters.

Before you start using your OCR device you’ll want to check the battery status. To do so just click the control button once. The color of the light surrounding the control button show what level of charge remaining. Green means full charge, blue means medium charge, and red means little to no charge. If you do need to charge your device before using, just connect it to a power source via the USB cable. Charging takes approximately 2-3 hours.

HOW TO USE

Once charged, you’re OCR device is ready to use. Just follow the steps below;

1. Set temperature
   • Click the function button, the light around the function button will change colors to show the different temperature levels
     • Red = high, recommended for people who like strong cigarette taste
     • Blue = medium, recommended for people who like original cigarette taste
     • Green = low, recommended for people who like mild cigarette taste
2.  To put a cigarette in the device, you will need a cigarette that’s 8cm or less in diameter (this is most standard cigarettes (ex. Marlboro))
   • Put the whole cigarette into the heating chamber with the filter sticking up at the top
   • You can use the plastic mouthpiece or, if like the feeling of traditional cigarette filters, you can break one off a second cigarette, unscrew the top of the plastic mouthpiece and replace it with the cigarette filter.
3. To turn on, click the control button 3 times
4. When heating begins device will vibrate the light will begin flashing
   • heating takes approximately 40 seconds
5. When heated, device will vibrate and the light will turn solid
   • cycle lasts 200 seconds (3.33 minutes)
6. When the cycle ends the device will vibrate and the light will turn off
7. Remove cigarette and filter if applicable

OCR must rest for 5 minutes between uses, and it will not turn on again until the five minutes have passed.

To keep the device working well make sure you clean it regularly and change the filter every 80 uses. To do this, just push open the filter door (located on the bottom of the device, ‘OPEN’ written on it), remove the old filter, and replace it with a new one. Use the cleaning sticks to clean the filter chamber, heating chamber, and mouthpiece.
