Review – GLO Pro

When we heard GLO was releasing two new devices, GLO Pro and GLO Nano, we were so excited, as GLO’s devices have always impressed us before. But does GLO miss the mark with this one?

When we heard GLO was releasing two new devices, GLO Pro and GLO Nano, we were so excited, as GLO’s devices have always impressed us before. But did this device live up to our expectations?

GLO seems to be listening to customer feedback because GLO Pro has two unique settings (Standard and Boost) which allow you customize your experience. With these two settings you can change temperature, length of cycle, and heating time. For both settings you get a little under 30 consecutive uses, but still pretty good. Our biggest complain was that the device makes a constant ticking/rattling sound when turned on that is incredibly annoying. This is due to the induction heating technology used in GLO Pro.

$48USD is a reasonable enough price.

FEATURES: Two unique settings that alter temperature and length of cycle.

QUALITY: It’s equally as heavy as other GLO devices and doesn’t feel flimsy, but the ticking/rattling sound makes it seem cheap.

DESIGN: The design is gorgeous! I love the gold accents. It’s nice that the company kept the original device shape.

In your GLO Pro kit you will find; the device, the manual, a Quick Start Guide, a warranty card, a USB adaptor (note: adaptor style varies based on region of purchase), a USB cable, and a cleaning brush.

As always, we recommend checking to make sure that the device is fully charged before using it. To do so just click the control button once. The 4 LED indicator lights that surround the control button show the remaining charge . If all 4 lights are lit then the device has 100-75% charge remaining, is 3 lights are lit then 74-50% remaining, two lights means 49-25% remaining, 1 light means 24-1% remaining, and if all lights flash then the device is at 0% charge. If you find that your device has anything less than 4 lights lit, we recommend charging fully by connecting the device to a power source via the USB cable.

Now that the device is charged let’s look at the two unique settings GLO Pro offers. The settings are called Standard and Boost. These settings essentially just control temperature and length of cycle.

In Standard setting the time it takes for your device to heat is 20 seconds. The cycle lasts for 4 minutes and 20 seconds, and the temperature reaches up to 239°C/ 462°F. We recommend this setting for anyone who has lots of time to relax and enjoy their GLO cycle.

In Boost setting the time it takes for your device to heat is reduced to 10 seconds, the cycle time is reduced to 3 minutes, 10 seconds, and the temperature is raised to 262°C/ 504°F. This is the perfect setting for anyone who is under time constraints but still wanting a strong hit.

We did find that the number of cycles you got changed depending on what setting you used, however the difference was minor. With Standard you get 27 consecutive cycles. With Boost you get 29.

How you choose your desired setting depends on how long you press and hold the control button when turning on the device. If you want the Standard setting you will press and hold the control button for 3 seconds, at which time you will feel the device vibrate once. You can then let go as the device heats. If you want the Boost setting you will not let go after 3 seconds. You will keep pressing and holding the control button for another 2 seconds after the first vibration. You will then feel two more vibrations. Now you can let go as the device heats.

Just like the other GLO devices, the LED lights will begin flashing to let you know that the device is heating. Once the device is fully heated all 4 LED lights will turn solid.

Depending on what setting you choose the LED lights will flash differently. With the Standard setting the lights will flash then turn solid one-by-one. With the Boost setting the lights will rotate, kind of like an internet loading symbol would.

Like we said above, Standard cycles last for 4 minutes and 20 seconds, Boost cycles last for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Since GLO Pro is multi-use you can use it numerous times consecutively. Be careful though as we found the material got hot to the touch after two uses.

We found that GLO Pro made quite a noticeable ticking/rattling noise during the cycle. At first we were afraid that perhaps our device was broken, but it seems to work fine and nothing rattles inside when shaken. A Heat180 Community Member pointed out that the rattling is a result of induction heating technology used in GLO Pro. For some people this could be quite annoying, but others may not find it so. If you use your device only in loud public places you probably won’t notice this sound, but as someone who also enjoys a nice quiet use at home I couldn’t stand it. I’ve tested device before that emit low sounds but GLO Pro is by far the most easily heard. Be warned.

To ensure that your device stays healthy, clean it regularly. GLO Pro does not have a self-cleaning feature but don’t worry it’s extremely easy to clean. Jut open the HeatStick heating chamber, put the brush in, and sweep away any grime. You’re going to want to sweep from both ends of the HeatSticks heating chamber to make sure that you don’t miss anything.

GLO has 3 types of HeatSticks; Neo, Kent NeoStik, and Dunhill NeoStik. GLO HeatSticks are specifically designed for GLO products. They look a bit like a traditional cigarette but are much thinner. For more a full listing of NeoStik flavors click here.

Note: With GLO devices the heating occurs around the outside of the HeatStick, therefore, when removed, the wrapper will have quite alot of discoloration. This is normal and nothing to be concerned about.

GLO Pro does come with a warranty card however terms may vary depending on the country of origin. Most warranties last two years, however some can be as short as 6 months. GLO Pro warranties only cover manufacturer defects. Most warranties are transferable to third parties.

  1. PS

This is a significant upgrade over S1/S2 for me. You can heat up in 10 seconds instead of the usual 40 and at a higher temperature which provides a better smoking experience.

Pros: Fast heat up + consecutive sticks = normal cigarettes smoking pleasure. Better design compared to S1/S2 (subjective to personal preference). USB C charging port, there’s no need to look for or carry a micro usb cable.

Cons: device heats up after consecutive uses and less sticks between charges (20+ compared to 30+ on my S1/S2) but unless you smoke more than 20+ a day, 20+ sticks is still good enough for me.
