The Basics About This Device

We often review devices that are less expensive alternatives to IQOS 3.0 Multi, the newest IQOS product. But what if, like some of our Heat180 team members, your favorite IQOS design isn’t 3.0 Multi? What if you like 2.4 Plus or 3.0? No worries because there are alternatives on the market for those IQOS products as well! The one we will be reviewing today is Lambda A1!

Lambda A1 is comparable to IQOS 2.4/2.4 Plus in both design and function. Just like IQOS 2.4/2.4 Plus, Lambda A1 has two components; the holder and the pocket charger. It is not a multi-use device, rather after every use the holder must be recharged in the pocket charger. However, our test users found that you can get up to 32 cycles before needing to recharge the pocket charger.

Lambda A1 comes in white, black, or red.

Product Unboxing & First Use

Heat180

Included in the Lambda A1 kit is the holder, pocket charger, the A1 manual, a USB cable, a cleaning brush, and cleaning sticks. Once you’ve unboxed everything, check the charge of your pocket charger by clicking the power button once. The 4 LED indicator lights on the front of the pocket charger will show you the amount of charge remaining. 4 lights lit means that there is 75%+ charge remaining, 3 lights means 75%-50% remaining, 2 lights means 50%-25% remaining, and only 1 light lit means that there is 25% or less charge remaining. If there is anything less than 4 lights lit when you press the power button, we recommend charging. The first step in charging is to put the holder in the holder charging chamber and close the pocket charger lid. One thing that is great about Lambda A1 is that, unlike IQOS 2.4/2.4 Plus, there is no specific way you have to insert the holder – you can put it in the holder charging facing any which way. Then plug in the USB cable to the USB port on the bottom of the pocket charger and plug it into a power source. Our test users found that it took approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes to charge the device fully.

Heat180

Once charged, you can use the device. Take the holder out of the pocket charger and gently insert a HeatStick. Then press and hold the holder control button until the holder vibrates and the LED indicator light begins flashing. This means that the holder is warming up. The warm-up will take approximately 25 seconds. When the warm-up is over the holder will vibrate for a second time and the LED light will turn solid white.

You can then enjoy the cycle. Lambda A1 offers a bit of a longer cycle, which we like, although you can stop the cycle at any point by pressing and holding the holder control button. The cycle can vary in length – we don’t know why? But on average it lasts for approximately 5 minutes and 40 seconds or 16 puffs. That is two puffs more than IQOS 2.4 Plus!

25 seconds before the end of the cycle, the holder will vibrate one last time as a warning and the LED light will begin flashing again.

Once the holder has completely powered down, you can remove the HeatStick by pushing up the holder cap and gently pulling the HeatStick out. Do not twist the HeatStick or use excessive force as the heating blade for Lambda A1, like IQOS 2.4, is a bit more fragile than other devices on the market.

If you want to immediately enjoy another cycle, you will have to put it back into the holder charging chamber (in the pocket charger) so that it can charge again. It takes approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds for the holder to charge in the pocket charger. The pocket charger LED indicator light will flash while the holder is charging, then turn off completely when charging is done.

Even if you finish a cycle and do not want to use the holder again immediately, we still recommend putting it back into the holder charging chamber. Not only will it be charged and ready for the next use, but this protects the holder from damage. It’s a good practise to get into.

Day to Day Use

As with all devices, make sure you clean regularly. Lambda offers two methods of cleaning; a cleaning brush and cleaning sticks. To use the brush, take the cap off the holder fully, lower the brush over the holder and gently turn from side to side. When you’re done turn the device upside down and tap it to get the loosened tobacco out of the HeatSticks heating chamber. To use the cleaning sticks, have the holder cap off again and gently wipe away any grime and residue in the heating chamber.

Investing in Lambda

Heat180

Lambda is a subsidiary of Shenzhen Original Technology Co. Ltd., which was established in 2011, however the company didn’t begin manufacturing Heat-Not-Burn devices until 2018, when they launched A1!

While the company is a little bit less well known compared to brands like HiTaste, they are slowly growing in popularity. In the spring of 2019 they launched their second ever HnB device the Lambda T3! Our team feels like there is real promise for this brand, especially due to the good quality of their products!

Lambda A1 was a joy to test! Our team loved that you could get over 30 uses before needing to charge the pocket charger and were even more impressed that it only took a little over an hour and a half to charge! Everyone felt as though the device was well made and sturdy. There were several times when I accidentally tried opened the pocket charger lid from the wrong end (the end with the hinge), but the hinge never broke or showed any signs of damage despite my using force.

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that the holder and pocket charger do not scratch or get marked easily. Any marks that they did get while we were testing them, wiped off with no problems.

Most impressively, our test users found that it was just as, if not more, satisfying than IQOS 2.4/2.4 Plus!

Overall, Lambda A1 does take more time to use than a multi-use device, but if you are someone who does not need multiple cycles in a short amount of time and enjoys this design then this is a great, inexpensive option for you.

HeatSticks Overview

The Lambda brand does not product their own HeatSticks. Instead, their devices are designed to work with other branded HeatSticks, such as HEETS and Marlboro for IQOS HeatSticks.
