The Basics About This Device

As you know from one of our most recent reviews, HiTaste is a well-known brand in the HnB industry. HiTaste, a subsidiary of Shenzhen Ruigu Technology Co. Ltd., has been in business since 2011 and currently manufactures the no. 1 customer rated alternative to IQOS 3.0 Multi, HiTaste P5.

Following the success of P5, which was launched in 2018, HiTaste revealed the Q1 device in June of this year. Q1 is the first device out of what could potentially become a new line of HnB products.

The Q1 is an integrated device that can be used consecutively up to 16 times. The Q1 weighs 35g and measures 99 x 23 x 15 mm. Q1 appears to be both an inclusion of the basic P5 deign and functions as well as an attempt by the manufacturer to create a unique device for their brand. The Q1 does share some physical resemblance to its predecessors, but also looks unlike anything else on the market. Moreover, it shares many of the same functions, but does not have; a digital display screen, a usage record function, nor the option to choose the length of cycle. The device does offer temperature adjustment though, like the P5 did, however the controls are simplified. Instead of choosing an exact number. You are given a choice of either ‘Low,’ ‘Medium,’ or ‘High’ heat.

Q1 comes in 5 colors; black, silver, gray, gold, and red

Product Unboxing & First Use

Included in the HiTaste Q1 kit is the heating device, the Q1 manual, the Quality Control pass, and a USB cable. When you take your device out of the box, you’ll first check its charge by pressing the control button once. The control button will either flash red, blue, or green. Red indicates a low charge, blue indicates a mid charge, and green indicates full charge. If the battery is not completely full upon opening the kit (ours was) then we recommend charging it before usage.

Do do this, plug the USB cable into the USB port located on the bottom of the device and connect to a power source. When charging, the control button will flash green. It will stop flashing once full charge is reached. During this time, the device cannot be used in any other manner (e.g. no build-in cleaning, no using device). Charging takes approximately 1 hour and 46 minutes.

When the device is charged unplug it so that you can start using the device. Firstly you’ll want to set your desired temperature and length of cycle. To change the temperature that your device will run at, press the control button 5 times in rapid succession. The control button will flash either white, blue, or green. White is low temperature, blue is mid temperature, green is high temperature. Once you’ve found your desired temperature, simply wait for the light to stop flashing to set.

Now to use the device. Begin by inserting a HeatStick into the HeatStick heating chamber. Then press the control button 3 times in rapid succession to start the heating process. After the third click the device will vibrate and the control button will start flashing green to indicated that the heating process has begun. The amount of time it takes for the device to heat depends on what temperature it’s set at. Our test users found that it took somewhere between 15 and 30 seconds. The device will vibrate once again when heated and the control button will turn a solid green.

The cycle lasts for 3 minutes, 55 seconds in total, but in those last 15 seconds you will be given a warning vibration to let you know the cycle is ending. HiTaste Q1 can be used consecutively so if you need another cycle, you can do so.

To remove the HeatStick, lift the top insert up and pull the HeatStick out. This will help to reduce the amount of build-up within the HeatSticks heating chamber.

Just like HiTaste P5, the Q1 device does get hot to the touch around the HeatSticks heating chamber. This is unavoidable and really not a big deal as it’s not hot enough to burn your hand. It is a bit of a concern however since the device does not have any cover/top over the heating chamber. One of our test users for P5 pointed out that she did not feel comfortable throwing the device in her purse when the heating blade was still so hot and left exposed, in fear that something, like scrap paper, bobby pins, or her lanyard strap, could make its way into the heating chamber and touch the blade.

Testing & Day to Day Use

As for maintenance, like all HnB devices, it is recommended that you clean regularly to prevent build-up which could affect device performance. For Q1, the manufacturer recommends cleaning after every pack of HeatSticks. Our test users find it easier to clean every evening with the build-in cleaning mechanism, then do a full manual cleaning once per week, depending on your HeatStick usage.

To use the build-in mechanism, first take out the top insert to avoid damage, then press the control button 8 times in rapid succession. Once cleaning is activated the device will vibrate and the control button will turn red and begin flashing. The cleaning process takes approximately 25 seconds, at which point the device will vibrate to indicate the process is ending. The LED will continue flashing for another 3 seconds after the vibration, but will then turn off completely.

To manually clean the device, remove the top insert and gently clean around the blade with a cleaning stick or cleaning hook. It is important to note that the HiTaste kit does not include any cleaning tools, they must be purchased separately. HiTaste does not sell separate cleaning tools, but IQOS does. We recommend purchasing IQOS cleaning sticks, but it is not necessary if you’d prefer something else instead. One of our test users, cleans his devices with cotton swabs lightly dipped in rubbing alcohol and has never had a problem with device functions or technical issues.

Investing in HiTaste

HiTaste was developed under Shenzhen Ruigu Technology Co. Ltd.. The company was established in 2011, however they did not begin manufacturing HnB devices until 2017, when they launched the Quick product line. The HiTaste line was launched in 2018 with P5 as the first device promoted.

Although the Q1 does not offer all the same functions as the P5, this could be preferential for some users. Q1 is far easier to control than other HiTaste devices. Our test users appreciated this. Some did note, however, that they do miss the usage record as it helped them keep track. This was especially beneficial for individuals who are trying to maintain usage rates or anyone who uses all available cycles throughout the day and wants to know, approximately, how many cycles they have left.

Nevertheless, all our users felt that HiTaste Q1 was a solid device in terms of quality, design, and performance. We would however recommend this device to experienced HnB users rather than beginners, as there are numerous controls and, unlike the P5, no digital display screen to help users visually follow along.

HeatSticks Overview

The HiTaste brand does not product their own HeatSticks. Instead, their devices are designed to work with other branded HeatSticks, such as HEETS and Marlboro for IQOS HeatSticks.

Is hitaste p6 or this one better?

    • Heat180

Hi Moses! Both are great devices! Our test users really liked HiTaste P5 (which is very similar to P6) because of the display screen feature. We also loved that you can change the length of the cycle as well as track how many HeatSticks you’re using. We would recommend HiTaste P6 to frequent and advanced Heat-Not-Burn users as it can be a bit overwhelming for new users. HiTaste Q1 is a solid device too, but it doesn’t offer the display screen, length of cycle adjustment feature, or the usage tracking feature, so we would recommend it for new or casual users.

  2. George from the heat180 community

Sleek, small and well-priced device. This device is great as a backup or for heat stick smokers that consumed 10 or less heatsticks.
