The Basics About This Device

From one look, Gippro SW-2 doesn’t seem that different from other Heat-Not-Burn devices, but while writing this review we discovered that it has several unique design features. Overall, the device isn’t that complex, but it has a unique blade element that you screw in, and can therefore screw out to replace, if need be. It also has a reset button that doubles as a self-cleaning function. These features really intrigued us, but did we like the rest of the device? Let’s jump into the review, shall we?

SW-2 is an integrated, multi-use device that vaguely resembles a vape pen. Gippro is pretty simple in design and operation. There is no temperature adjustment but there is self-cleaning to make it easier for the user. SW-2 claims to offers 8-10 consecutive uses, but our test users got 19.

Our Thoughts on This Device

It’s okay. It’s well-built and sturdy, but still lightweight. It seems to function well as we had no problems when using it. Despite the unique design features, SW-2 is a simple device to use so it would be good for new users, casual users, or people who don’t want any extras on their device.

We really liked that it charged in only 1 hour and 27 minutes, but that’s probably because it doesn’t offer that many consecutive uses. Officially it offers 8-10 consecutive uses. Our test users got 19. That’s a pretty good amount over what is quoted.

One thing we didn’t really like about the device is that the blade is one of those long, flat ones, like what you find in IQOS devices, instead of a pin-style blade. These blades are known for being more fragile than pin-style blades. Just be extra careful when inserting and removing HeatSticks or when cleaning. Luckily, due to the design, the blade can be removed if broken and Gippro does sell replacement blades. This does make us wonder though, does the manufacturer design the device so that the blade can be removed because they know it will eventually break?Hmm.

So is Gippro SW-2 worth it? It’s alright if you want a basic device. I’m not sure it’s worth the money though. For $48USD you can get alot better devices. If this was priced at around $30-$35USD, it’d be more accurate to the actual value, I feel. Ultimately though, it is a matter of personal preference.

Unboxing & How to Use

Heat180

Included in your Gippro SW-2 kit is; the device, the manual, a USB cable, a carry case/pouch, cleaning sticks, cleaning picks, and elastics (the purpose of these is not specified – let us know in the comment section above if you have any idea what the elastics are meant for).

Heat180

Once you’ve unboxed your device, you can check it’s charge by clicking on the control button once. The color of the LED indicator light will show the amount of charge remaining. White indicates that 100-60% charge is remaining. Blue means 60%-30%. Red means 30%-0%. If your device arrives at anything less than 60% we would recommend charging before you use it. To do so, connect the device to the the USB cable and then to a power source.

Once the device is fully charged, you can begin using it. To start the heating process, click the control button 5 times in rapid succession. The device will vibrate and the LED indicator light will begin flashing. Heating takes approximately 10 seconds. The device will vibrate again when the heating process had ended and the LED indicator light will turn solid. The device is now ready to be used.

SW-2’s cycle lasts 3 minutes and 8 seconds. The device will vibrate for a final time when the cycle is over. Since SW-2 is multi-use you can begin a new cycle immediately after the first ends by clicking the control button 5 more items.

Gippro has a self-cleaning function, but it’s a bit different from what we’ve seen with other HnB devices. With Gippro, there is a small button located next to the USB port. When you insert a cleaning pick into the button, it will reset the device, while also cleaning the blade. The LED indicator light will flash white while this takes place. We recommend doing this often, but maybe not every day since the cleaning also resets the device. We’re not sure if continuously resetting the device is healthy as we’ve never heard of that before.

To maintain good device health, you’ll want to also clean the device manually. We recommend doing this at least once per week. To do this, remove the cap from the body of the device, then unscrew the blade insert. With a cleaning stick, gently wipe away all grime and tobacco residue.

HeatSticks Overview

The Gippro brand does not product their own HeatSticks. Instead, their devices are designed to work with other branded HeatSticks, such as HEETS, Marlboro for IQOS, and Fiit HeatSticks.

Gippro SW Manual

Unfortunately the Gippro SW-2 manual is only available in Japanese. We’ve linked it in the manual button below for those who can read Japanese. For those who can’t, the official Gippro website has detailed instructions on how to use SW-2 that can then be translated.

Warranty

There is supposed to a warranty card included in the kit. We think this might be the ‘Other Documents’ we reference in the section above, but unfortunately these documents are only provided in Japanese. We do not speak Japanese and, turns out, it’s quite difficult to translate Japanese character by character. If you are fluent in Japanese, please let us know!

If you do need to activate your warranty, but are unsure of the terms, contact Gippro at info@gippro-japan.com or by phone at +03-5807-3108.
