The Basics About This Device

Once again AYI has developed another unique Heat-Not-Burn device! The AYI TT8 is one of their more recent devices. It is an integrated, multi-use device which supports up to 23 consecutive cycles. The last AYI device we reviewed, the TT7, was very similar in design to IQOS 3.0 Multi. TT8 is quite different as it has design components from numerous different devices, we think. It still mimics IQOS 3.0 Multi for some features, such as the heating element, but its controls are very similar to HiTaste P5 (the current no. 1 customer rated alternative to 3.0 Multi), and its physical design somewhat resembles GLO’s, in that it has a heavy duty battery to help increase the number of uses. We really like how the manufacturer, Trioo Tech Gorup Co. Ltd., has combined so many features into this one device.

AYI TT8 is available in 3 colors; black, white, and red.

Product Unboxing and First Use

Included in the AYI TT8 kit is the heating device, the TT8 manual, a USB cable, a cleaning device, and cleaning sticks. Once you’ve unboxed your device, check the charge by clicking the control button once. The 4 LED indicator lights below the control button will show you the amount of charge remaining. If the device has full charge all 4 lights will be lit, if the device is in need of charging only one light will light and will flash. To charge, plug the USB cable into the USB port, located on the underside of the device. Our team found that charging took approximately 2 hours and 22 minutes.

Once your device is charged, it is time to begin using. The first step when using this device is to set your desired temperature. TT8 has three temperature settings; low gear, middle gear, and high gear, which are indicated by the LED light (low = green light, middle = blue light, high = red light). To change the settings click the power button 3 times in rapid succession until you see the light flash the desired color.

Once the temperature has been set, you’re ready to turn on the device. Start it by pressing and holding the control button for several seconds. *Note* it says in the manual that to turn on you have to click the control button twice quickly, but that did not work for our team.

After you’ve held the control button TT8 will vibrate and the LED light will begin flashing. It will warm for approximately 18 seconds and then vibrate again to indicate that it is ready to use. One cycle lasts approximately 5 minutes, 30 seconds. At the 5 minute mark, the device will vibrate and the LED light will being flashing again to warn you that it is almost over. When the device does power down, the lights will turn off.

AYI TT8 is a multi-use device, meaning that you can use it 23 in a row without needing to charge it in between uses. Simply wait for a few seconds for the device to cool, then press and hold the control button once again to enjoy another cycle.

If you choose to only go with one cycle, then once the cycle has ended you can remove the HeatStick by pushing up on the HeatStick eject switch. Take care when doing this as the heating chamber element will be hot.

Testing & Day to Day Use

To ensure that your device always functions at optimal value, and therefore always provides you a pleasant experience, clean it frequently. There are two ways to clean AYI TT8. The first is the self-cleaning feature. To do this, press the control button in rapid succession 8 times, until the LED light begins flashing blue. It’ll stop flashing when self-cleaning is done. This takes approximately 20 seconds. The second option is to clean the device manually. Included in your kit are cleaning sticks and a cleaning brush tool. Use these to gently remove grime and build-up from inside the heating chamber. To get a better clean push the heating chamber element up with the HeatSticks eject switch. The manufacturer recommends cleaning every 20 HeatSticks, however here at Heat180, our team recommend cleaning the device manually at least once per week and self-cleaning every day since it’s so easy to do.

Investing in a AYI Device

AYI is manufactured by a company called Trioo Technology Group Co. Ltd., which is a subsidiary of Shenzhen Dewe Technology Co. Ltd. Shenzhen Dewe Technology was established in 2010, as a specialist in manufacturing fast moving consumer goods. Trioo Tech, however, was not established until 2014.

Our team has so far had good experiences with AYI devices. They perform well and are satisfying. If you are looking for a less expensive alternative to brand name devices, AYI is a good option. Moreover, AYI produces numerous styles/designs of HnB devices, so it’s easy to find the one that works best for you.

Overall, our test users enjoyed AYI TT8. For its price, its good quality and performs well! The device is easy to use, however there are several commands that need to be memorized (e.g. 8 presses for self-cleaning, 3 for temperature adjustment), so we would recommend this to frequent and somewhat advanced HnB users, rather than casual users.

The thing our test users liked the most about AYI TT8 was overwhelmingly the amount of cycles you can get out of it before needing to charge. Officially you should be able to get 23 cycles, and our test users got exactly 23! This is the highest amount of cycles we’ve seen offered by a device that is not manufactured by a big tobacco company. It’s so convenient! This is also the first time we’ve seen the exact amount of cycles claimed to be accurate.

HeatSticks Overview

The AYI brand does not produce their own HeatSticks. Instead, their devices are designed to work with other branded HeatSticks, such as HEETS and Marlboro for IQOS HeatSticks.

Tips and Tricks

  • Be aware when ordering this device online that some retailers call it the Thinkman T8 instead of TT8. Some of them don’t even mention that it is an AYI device.
  • The one complaint we have is that this device takes waaay longer to charge than what it says it does. The manual says charging should take approximately 80 minutes, or 1 hour and 20 minutes. In actuality, it took us 142 minutes, or 2 hours and 22 minutes, to charge the device fully! Now to be fair the website does say 130 minutes, or 2 hours and 10 minutes, but still it’s not a fast charge. We recommend charging overnight so that you will not have to wait around in between uses.
  • We were really impressed that the shiny material that makes up the body of the device doesn’t get smudged very easily. It does still get smudges, fingerprints, etc., however compared to an item like reading glasses, there’s no competition, the material for this device is really good at keeping smudges to a minimal!
  • Sometimes the device does not vibrate at the beginning of the cycle. We have no explanation for this, but don’t find that if effects the cycles in any way.

If the device malfunctions due to mistreatment or user negligence, the manufacturer will fix it but there will be a service charge. It is important to note that the battery is not included in the one-year warranty. Instead, batteries are covered only for 6 months.
